RED FLAGS

raised when he refused to go out in the rain
and get me a better sandwich
when he told me to love his cats
or else
when he showed up at my door
with another woman’s pussy
on his breath
when he said he was crazy in love with me
on the basis of a few poems and photographs
when he got caught shoplifting
and blamed it on me
when he showed me a picture of his cousin
and said, "isn’t she hot?”
when he tried to kiss me
after eating his boogers
when he proposed with a plastic twenty-five cent ring
when he followed me into the bathroom
and told me how
to wipe
my ass

BLACK INK STAINS ON MY LEFT THIGH

went to bed with the muse again
grappled & bit
indulged in bridge burning
headboard banging
guitar screeching sex
there is no glow after
no epiphany dawning
sun spilling butter
on pancake flesh
it’s always cigarette hacking
instant coffee swilling
peppermint gum spitting
cause, yeah
it loses its flavor
on the bedpost overnight
